The Brazos Valley African American Museum is proud to announce its newest America250 exhibit, At the Gates of Freedom: Black Experiences in the Revolutionary Era. This special exhibit explores the lives, struggles, and contributions of African Americans during the Revolutionary War era and highlights their role in shaping the foundation of the United States.
Through historical narratives, educational displays, and engaging exhibits, visitors will learn about the pursuit of freedom, the fight for equality, and the complex experiences of Black Americans during one of the nation’s most defining periods in history. The exhibit also examines the contradictions between the ideals of liberty and the reality of slavery during the Revolutionary Era.
“As we commemorate America250, it is important to recognize and share the stories that have often been overlooked in traditional history,” said museum representatives. “This exhibit provides an opportunity for the community to reflect on the resilience, courage, and impact of African Americans during the founding of our nation.”
The exhibit is open to visitors during regular museum hours at the Brazos Valley African American Museum. Community members, educators, students, and families are encouraged to attend and experience this important historical presentation.
