Bryan, TX (13 March 2026) — The Brazos Valley African American Museum (BVAAM) invites the community to experience a powerful new exhibit, “William A. Scott III: Witness to the Holocaust,” on display February 4 through April 30.
This traveling exhibit shares the story of William Alexander “W.A.” Scott III, an African American World War II veteran, photographer, and journalist who witnessed the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. Through a photographic essay and historical panels, the exhibit highlights Scott’s firsthand documentation of the atrocities discovered when Allied forces liberated the camp in 1945.
The exhibit also encourages reflection on broader themes of racism and injustice by drawing historical connections between Jim Crow laws in the United States and the Nuremberg Race Laws in Nazi Germany.
Through images, historical context, and Scott’s personal perspective, visitors gain insight into both the horrors of the Holocaust and the complex experiences of African American soldiers who served during World War II.
The exhibit is open to the public during regular museum hours. Community members, educators, and students are encouraged to visit and learn from this important historical narrative.
