BVAAM Family Library
A collection of books about African American history and culture that is appropriate for K-12 students is being compiled , organized, and catalogued for patrons to use while in the Museum or for occasional check out. The collection is limited at present, but it is hoped that it will increase through donations of new and/or gently used books. Friends and family may wish to donate a new book in honor of someone’s birthday or special accomplishment. A “wish list” of books for our collection may be used for book selection.
Guidelines for Use of the Library:
- You may check out one book for one week.
- Complete the check out form in the notebook on top of the bookcase.
- Return books may be placed in a basket near the office.
- A borrowed book must be returned before checking out another one.
- The library will be available for reading or checking out books during regular Museum hours – unless a scheduled program event is in progress.
- One Saturday morning a month, beginning in October, 2016, there will be a one hour storytelling event for children ages 5-12 at the Museum.
- New or gently used books donated to our collection are appreciated.
Family Library Collection
Family Library “Wish” list for books for Pre-K – 12th graders
This suggested list of appropriate books will enhance our current family library holdings. The library books will be useful for families to share for enhancing knowledge and reading literacy. They may be used for reading aloud or for oral storytelling resources for school groups who visit the Museum .
New or gently used books either from this list or your own personal choice will be greatly appreciated. The books are listed in subject categories. Friends and families might chose to make a book donation to the Museum in honor of someone’s birthday or accomplishment. Thank you for your consideration of this service to our Museum and community.
